American Biological Safety Association

Provide annual training courses to the membership on a variety of topics at the annual meetings. This has included training on Agricultural select agents, BLS3-Ag considerations, and the Annual Biosafety Review. 

Alliance Biosciences

Provide support and guidance in all projects involving biosafety in laboratories. This involves design review, facility inspections, assistance in writing biosafety management plans, biosafety training and interpretation of biosafety guidance documents.

Benchmark Biolabs

Provide annual biosafety refresher training to the entire staff covering a variety of topics including BSL3 laboratory and ABSL3 vivarium practices and procedures, disinfection and decontamination and biosafety cabinet practices.

BN Therapeutics

Provided annual biosafety refresher training, which consisted of hands on training of the entire staff in laboratory entry/exit procedures, use of PPE, biosafety cabinet use, emergency response, safe sharps practices and waste disposal.

Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs

Provided review and biosafety advice to the development of a new high containment laboratory being developed in Kyrgyzstan. This involved reviewing design plans, providing detailed guidance to the A&E firm, providing guidance on the sustainability and transition plan.

CuH2A and Medimmune

Provided guidance and document review in preparation for a USDA select agent review of a new BSL3 laboratory working with avian influenza. This included review of the facilities, biosafety manual, biosecurity manual, incident response manual, facilities operations manual, and commissioning reports.

Food and Agriculture Organization, United Nations

Provided guidance on the conversion of a BSL2 laboratory to a BSL3 laboratory in support of becoming an internationally recognized Avian Influenza reference laboratory. This required an on site inspection of the current facilities with detailed recommendations on facility renovations and biosafety training of the staff.

Frontline Foundation

Development of a “Train-the-Trainer” biosafety course for CDC-USDA on animal biosafety levels 1 to 4, including BSL3-Ag. This involved creating PowerPoint presentations with speaker’s notes which provided complete information on all animal biosafety levels, to the extent that others could teach the material. Provided additional reviews of other “Train-the-Trainer” modules in this course. 

George Mason University

Provide training to faculty and staff on animal biosafety considerations for the IBC. This involved giving guidance and training to the IBC staff on their responsibilities and involvement in reviewing animal studies for biosafety and biosecurity.

Georgetown University

As an Adjunct Professor provide instruction in the department of Microbiology and Immunology on Agroterrorism. This involves provides didactic presentations to students related to foreign animal diseases, US preparedness and response to Agroterror events.

Homeland Security Institute

Provided input to the review of the Division of Select Agents and Toxins as part of a comprehensive assessment of the program as ordered by COPTER. This required a thorough understanding of the CDC/USDA Select Agent program and its current implementation and inspection process, so that constructive comments could be made.

Merrick and Company

Provided advice on decommissioning of a liquid waste system after use with a wide variety of agriculture pathogens. This required an on site inspection of the system, extensive background information gathering and an assessment of the hazards with recommendations on how to proceed.

The Ohio State University

Provide a design review of a new BSL3-Ag facility being developed. Provided design review with guidance and advice for the purpose of obtaining USDA select agent approval.

U.S. Department of State

Provide biosafety guidance and advice to program managers who are implementing the Bioengagement Program with numerous countries. This involves on site laboratory inspections, biosafety training, design plan review, equipment purchase and use recommendations, hands-on training in various international settings and long range strategic planning.

U.S. Department of Agriculture - Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service

BSL3-Ag checklists based upon guidance from the BMBL 5th Ed Appendix D. This required a thorough understanding of BSL3-Ag and the regulatory framework under which facilities would be approved to use agricultural select agents.

U.S. Department of Agriculture – Agriculture Research Service

Provided advice to the ARS on strategic engagements related to scientific collaborations in animal health that would both benefit the US and in country partners. This involved review of scientific programs, publications, laboratory inspections and assistance in writing project proposals.

Provided support and advice in the development of an initial meeting of OIE, FAO and WHO to discuss harmonization of biosafety support to human and animal health laboratories around the world.

U.S. Department of Agriculture – Foreign Agriculture Service

Provided biosafety training in foreign countries to support developing laboratory capacity in Avian Influenza diagnostics. This included biosafety training of scientists receiving support to expand their AI diagnostic capability so that they could do more extensive surveillance and virus characterization work safely.
